Times of India #MEGA #FAIL on efiling

Times of India has again done the unthinkable. Its misguiding its readers completely by its flawed headline which says Opt for e-fling tax, get discounts But whats there actually is an advertisement straight out of a leaflet from some company called Taxsmile. It says, pay Taxsmile for e-filing of your tax and you will get a lot of discounts and prizes. Thats outright stupid to have as a story. If I have to e-file my taxes should not I head over to https://incometaxindiaefiling.gov.in/portal/index.do . Why should I bother to pay someone else for it. And as I have for previous two years, I have found it really simple. So Times of India instead of simply explaining how to do an e-filing, has advertised for a company. Smart people. I guess Times of India is getting itself into a reputation of being an untrustworthy news source, the latest being http://wearethebest.wordpress.com/2009/07/18/25-years-moved-so-quickly-it-seems-like-just-12/ . Probably its good enough for the Page3 a...

Bill for Prevention of Moral Policing

I now try to introduce this Bill for Prevention of Moral Policing. Now the most obvious question is that why? Well moral policing is becoming a menacing problem in India now. We need to create some sort of a law for prevention of this menace. But then isnt it that nothing is going to change if I put this Bill in here. Well that anyways happens, look at Women Reservation Bill for starters, its pending since eternity now. So here I present the Bill for you. By this Act, every citizen of India is given the right to dress, act and speak as he/she wishes to unless he violates any of the laws of the Indian Constitution. Any act by a person/group/organisation to forecfully stop or intimidate any person or group from acting according to his/her will be punishable under this act. Any such action would lead to the group/person/organisation being declared guilty and would be punishable with minimum 6years to maximum of 14 years of rigorous imprisonment and/or fine upto Rs 50lakhs or actual...

They came, they saw, they shot and what do we do now???

Well they came by sea and this has been confirmed by Govt. of India. They killed 100s and I strongly believe that the number given by Govt of Indiais highly deflated one. Great bloggers like Nitin Pai and GreatBong have written at lengths about this carnage(I am sorry for those who call it tragedy). It was nothing more that cold blooded massacre of people in India. The suggestion and thoughts by both these bloggers have been bang on target. But then, this stupid Congress government is not expected to be able to achieve anything. So here are my suggestions(well when everyone has one, why should I not chip in) There are three ways to deal with the situation. 1. Pseudo-Gandhian way -- Take out rally and protest creating havoc for the people who are already suffering at the hands of the government. The candle lights protest as well as going at lengths of giving memorandum to the political brasses all fall in this category. I hail from the city known of late more for protests than a...

Defeat of truth in a Democracy

Well Nanavati Commision Report is out and there it goes, as expected proving innocence of Narendra Modi and validating the BJP stand. And as expected, all the hue and cry from Congress. Well it was a similar scene, with only the roles changed when Banerjee Report came. Similar hue and cry. I wonder if they talk sense and prove things instead of making empty noises. No I am not trying to support any one, but fact is that truth has died thanks to all the politics around the death of so many. I find it even more weird that most journalists never fail to mention that more than a thousand people died and most minority(it seems like only minority in India are the muslims. I wonder where do Jains, Sikhs, Buddhists and Christians go. I dont know where the fault lies. I dont know if these reports actually did any kind of study. I dont know if any of these reports did some scientific research and tests. I dont know if all these reports were written as any Sci-Fi writer does with all the research...

If only ads dont lie

Image
A picture is worth a thousand words. Obviously simplymarry.com went overboard with the ad campaign.   Common yaar every body knows there are no beautiful girls in Software. By the way never heard anyone say Software Engineering as their qualification. What do you think of simplymarry.com now??   A few other ads which they may have A hunk describing himself as havaldar or constable. A hottie posing as PhD in science. Another hottie posing as Women Welfare executive Can u think of any other situations??

Barcamp Bangalore ... Rock the world

Image
Well if India is diverse its so because of the people. Barcamp is for, with, by people and no wonder you had the ultimate kind of diversity in it. You had lawyers, CA, MBA, profs, CEOs, coders, developers and geeks (yes they are different) among various other people. It was an awesome mix of ideas and people. The planners met some time back and we had a lot of discussion over how to do things this time around. I was a yet another experiment. Thankfully it came out good. If there is anything to complain about, it probably is the content. But friend isnt content something that has to come from us, the junta. I had been planning for some sort of an open source project. I thought BCB would be a great place to find people. But sadly it did not turn out the way I wanted. No hands to join in for the project. But anyways I did get some feedback on the objectives of my BuddyHere . I did take another session on Hacking Canon compact camera to provide extra features. I will be writing a post ...

Blogathon - Giving power back to people

Image
If it was the newspapers which gave the power to the freedom fighters, its going to be the blogs which will give power to the us in fighting injustice so prevalent in the society. It would not be the voice of one or two people but the collective voice of hundred thousands whose voice will shake the blogosphere. The media as we see today is open to manipulation and more often not carrying the voice of the people. Blogathon is an attempt to unify the voice of 6 billion Indians. Together we shall talk about issues which affect us and society in general. Lets come together and talk about it. Its happening in the blogosphere from 20th to 26th April 2008. Each day the blogosphere will be talking about a particular topic. They are out now Infrastructure: Sunday, 20th April 2008 How can we improve the traffic condition in our city? Politics : Monday, 21st April 2008 How do we change the focus of politics from caste/religion to grassroot issues? Entertainment: Tuesday, 22nd Apr...

Thoughts on love and likes

Sometimes I wondered if there is anything called love. To put it plainly till I was in college I had this firm belief that love is not in the heart but in the mind. Being in love with the hottie in college was the passion and pride of most ppl. Though ur stupid as a dunk or having looks of Pankaj Kapoor(Apologies to Mr Kapoor but thats a good description) but you will never settle for anything but Aishwarya. They put everything at stake for her. Fight off guy who comes within 10m of her. But then when they realized that the girl has gone the other way, the guys would desperately hunt for a gal. Be it of any type or taste. Having a gal takes a high priority rather than any of the features of the gal. Then you would commit yourself to spend 99.99% of you telephone bill on SMSing her. Better still, hunt for a free SMS plan. Change numbers to get that plan. Picking and dropping the gal home becomes a top priority. The guy would also probably write/engrave on his arm the name of his 'su...

Events at iCamp Bangalore

The First Innovation Camp or iCamp Bangalore for short happened in Bangalore on 23rd Feb 2008 at Mindtree Consultings office at Banashankari. Here is how it unfurled to me. 09:30hrs := Registered and I am in 10:00hrs := I am in the room for intro of Barcamp Concept, given by Murali. Some rules etc. A lot less ppl compared to my expectations and NO WI-FI to connect to :-( 10:13hrs := Henry Jacob start with design driven development. Surely its true for IT Industry, Innovate or Die. (SCO, Sybase etc are examples of that) Some interesting concept for Design Foundation,  Games and Cube. Key points Innovate to hasten, eliminate jobs,  A god system should eliminate existing tasks, speed up tasks, save money, time and make ppl fall in love. Hot discussion on whats innovation and what design is on. I believe he was going on a good track and like many other presentations at Barcamp this too got lost somewhere. 10:40hrs := now we come to some conclusion. Basically it is clear ...

Be smart die young

In the list of those seriously stupid researchers we have one more. These guys are saying that smart people are more likely to have alcohol related problem. So how is that. Well they offer a rather simple explanation. Well the smarter the guy, more money he will have. All humans get stressed equally. So the rich guys have more money to spend on alcohol and hence more the problem. What a stupid research once more. Let me make one of my own . Ok here it is. All smart people die of unnatural causes of death. Well they are all rich. They all love fast cars. So when they drive is real fast, they sometimes end up in a fatal crash. So they dies a lot earlier than any person who is stupid and does not own a car. Serious Crap....

The privilege of a society

The year is 2080. Oxygen in this world is  becoming precious as always. All cities have special zones where this oxygen is generated. Space crunch has set in. Living in the dorm is a norm now with 60% of the population living there. War had devastated all the cities. No building was left. Most of the greenery and the oxygen was burnt up. People survive in dorms in cities. Very few people survive out of this area. Smoking is looked at with great displeasure by most, so is burning fire. Microwave is used for all purposes. ATG Corp last week released a prototype of houses where dorms were replaced by single room flats. They also introduced new water purifiers which were really low cost and removed radiation etc from water. Most of the junta was happy. They finally could get away from a dorm into a flat and have as much water as they wanted. But this has made a lot of activists unhappy. CNN IBN interviewed Mr SDF in his posh bungalow kept warm by the burning the tree leaves and branche...

Shame Australia Shame on you

Obviously the attitude of the Ausies have evoked sharp response from Indians. But wait are they alone who had this problem with them? ... Well we know that the answer is know. The sportsmenship of Ausies is now in the open. Well here is one of amazing forward that I got today. I dont know who the author is for sure but it sure is interesting After watching the test match, I feel some rules have to be incorporated by ICC to give the other teams a perfect clarification (1) Ricky Ponting – (THE TRULY GENUINE CRICKETER OF THE CRICKET ERA AND WHOSE INTEGRITY SHOULD NOT BE DOUBTED ) should be considered as the FOURTH UMPIRE . As per the new rules, FOURTH UMPIRE decision is final and will over ride any decisions taken by any other umpires. ON-FIELD umpires can seek the assistance of RICKY PONTING even if he is not on the field. This rule is to be made, so that every team should understand the importance of the FOURTH UMPIRE . (2) While AUSTRALIAN TEAM is bowling, If the ball...

Life Tips or just plain farce

I was watching an amazing show on MTV. It was filled with true sarcasm by VJ Cyrus, the Virus. He had those seemingly genuine disgust against the 'Life Tips' show called 'Love Bites'. Seriously what are those shows for. They tell you what to wear, what to eat and what to talk. Bloody hell, where is the real you. You want some idiot to fall in love with someone else. Or should I say that all people will fall in love with the person with same kind of personality. Yeah really I would have never discovered how to date and how to fall in love, rather make someone fall in love with me. I admit that I do not command any experience on the subject, (I am still happy) but all this seems farce to me. You would actually be believing that one size fits all. Please give me a break. I wonder if there is any blog which is actually into this stuff(It being there wont surprise me, though being other way round would). Anyways I would seriously like to consider the qualification of the so c...

Orkut's Indian Connection

Indians are heavily influencing orkut. Well it should have been with so many Indian just hooked onto Orkut and so many developers coming out of India every year. I am sure google too recruits them like many other software giants. Well a proof of that was uncovered to me a few days ago when I tried to get the location of the thumbnails in the friends update. It was something like http://img1.orkut.com/images/ chhota /15/556/677123.jpg?tid=123213 I just managed to notice the word 'chhota'. Now thats a nice desi way to say, thumbnails. No wonder orkut is getting feature laden each day. Not because the developers are Indians, but this small thing shows the passion they are carrying while developing this amazing social network. I truly believe that this kind of passion is what makes things go beyond the ordinary.

Is there a righteous voice left in India

Image
I really felt pained when I browsed through the forums at expressindia.com and rediff.com . These are forums which are below each news topic. I felt there are only two kinds of people out there. One who hate Narendra Modi for all reasons known and unknown and others who loved him for reasons all known and unknown. Now what pains me is that instead trying to point that the opposition(Congress) is doing good work for farmers and all in other states like Maharashtra and AP(Well this indeed is with a lot of sarcasm). They are only trying to justify that Narendra Modi is a killer. Bloody hell if he is a killer, he is dangerous, what the hell is a central government there for. But then they are all sayers and never the doers. Unlike Modi who actually does something and talks a lot about other things. He does not clearly made a pro cotton farmer policy(Read here ). But sadly Congress feels its unnecessary to make its something of an issue. Instead it tried to make use of the standard Communa...

Vista is less pirated, should Microsoft rejoice or worry

According to this story by Engadget , the rate of piracy of Vista is half of XP. Now should MS be happy about. After all piracy is low. But are they overlooking the fact that people hate Vista even if its free or at real dirt cheap prices. There have been several instances where people have downgraded their system to XP instead of the standard Vista. If the kind of hard selling that they are doing, I feel they are pretty much aware of the fact that people just dont trust Windows Vista. The acceptance level has reached a new low. The only way for them to outsell is to make their earlier product look bad. But then why would not they believe that the competitor (Linux and Mac) would not be dubbed as better creations. I really dont know if Vista is all that bad. I am happy with XP provided by office. I plan not to shift to Vista, unless forced. So the big question is, would you shift to Vista, even if it were to be free?

Who is a terrorist ?

Mr. Narendra Modi has asked a very valid question . I wonder how come no one ever asked it for so long. What is the future for Mr Afzal Guru. I get a feeling that this Congress government is waiting for another hijacking to happen and it is able to release Mr Afzal 'Inncocent' Guru. Why the heck is government taking the killing of brave Indian Jawans lite. I feel they are more concerned with getting the votes banks right than doing right thing. I dont feel anything wrong with the fact that Mr Modi is trying to talk the right stuff, to counter the acid attack on him carried out with the worst kind of degratory words rather than certain actions which were aught to be taken by the Congress Government in power. But I seriously doubt that taking sides on the terrorist(Making assumptions based on all info available to me). Its like you want to make the supporter of Dawood Ibrahim, the Prime Minister of India. People seem to have forgotten what Sanjay Dutt must have had received. He...

Yeh india ka naatak hain bhidu

Well I dont know if accidentally I had made some correct statements in this post about sikhs. I was so sure that it had no intellectual value but then I read this story . So here its says that Mr Anil Ambani is at fault for 'allegedly' circulating derogatory jokes against the Sikh community through its mobile Internet services. The masterminds again are from Lucknow, Lucknow Gurudwara Prabandhak Committee(LGPC). Seems like Lucknow is fast turning hub for all kinds of religious intolerance and communalism. I would like the LGPC people to first read the classics by Khushwant Singh. His jokes are the best of their kind. He is one guy which really made the sardar jokes reach out to the market. Then came the MTV and Mr Cyrus Bakara. They took these jokes to the masses. Each one of the young generation waited to hear these jokes. The final death nail was the Great Indian Laughter Challenge and Great Indian Comedy Show. Both of them literally taking humor and sardars to new height...

The pain of December 6, 1992

I remember the day this thing happened. I was a kid at that time. When I heard of the Babri Masjid being demolished, some how my first reaction was not that of fear or disappointment but that of happiness. That feeling came to me instinctively. As a kid I did things on instinct and not with any logic or thought. It was more so because I had seen the video of the then video cassette based news channels Newtrack and Eyewitness. They were of the brutal killing of several innocent men, women and children during the first attempt a couple of years ago in 1990. I felt that something has been done to attack the system back which killed several innocents. It was a defeat for the Mulayam Singh who had then sided with the muslims and had done a massacre of Hindus in 1990. But now fifteen years later I feel different. There is remorse over killing of so many hindus as well as demolition of the mosque. But what's the way forward. You can get into an infinite loop of destroying and rebuilding...
