[3rd November 2024] Interesting Things I Learnt This Week

1. Transforming CSV Files into Graphs with LLMs -  This is a step by step guide including code to transform csv files into graphs. There are prompts, python code and samples provided in it.  My Take : This is an excellent approach to streamlining data cleaning, a task that often consumes a significant portion of a data engineer's time. By leveraging the power of LLMs, we can potentially reduce this effort significantly. However, it's important to note that not all LLMs are equally effective for this purpose. Fine-tuning LLMs specifically for data cleaning tasks could further enhance their capabilities. I'm eager to learn more about this promising technique and its potential applications. Do let me know if have something interesting to share.   2. SOFA Start Often F*** Achievements - The SOFA principle advocates for starting numerous projects and finishing few. This approach prioritizes gaining diverse experiences and skills over completion. By frequently initiating new ...

 1. Stem cells reverse woman’s diabetes - Scientists have achieved a breakthrough in treating type 1 diabetes by using reprogrammed stem cells. A woman was successfully treated by receiving a transplant of these cells into her abdominal muscles. Following the transplant, she was able to maintain stable blood sugar levels without insulin for over a year. This is the first time such an approach has shown to be effective in reversing type 1 diabetes. While this is a promising development, more research is needed to confirm its long-term safety and efficacy in a larger group of people. My Take : This is a groundbreaking discovery. My father, along with millions of others, suffers from diabetes. Unfortunately, due to genetics, I'm likely to join them soon. However, this news offers hope not only for me but also for countless individuals who endure daily injections. I sincerely hope that the cost of this treatment remains affordable. Perhaps the government could intervene to ensure acce...

Be smart die young

In the list of those seriously stupid researchers we have one more. These guys are saying that smart people are more likely to have alcohol related problem. So how is that. Well they offer a rather simple explanation. Well the smarter the guy, more money he will have. All humans get stressed equally. So the rich guys have more money to spend on alcohol and hence more the problem. What a stupid research once more. Let me make one of my own . Ok here it is. All smart people die of unnatural causes of death. Well they are all rich. They all love fast cars. So when they drive is real fast, they sometimes end up in a fatal crash. So they dies a lot earlier than any person who is stupid and does not own a car. Serious Crap....

Another gem of a useless research

I just read this amazing research which says Preventing obesity and smoking can save lives, but it doesn't save money Here is the story on Wired . Le me quote the article "It was a small surprise," said Pieter van Baal, an economist at the Netherlands' National Institute for Public Health and the Environment, who led the study. "But it also makes sense. If you live longer, then you cost the health system more." Some more interesting lines "Lung cancer is a cheap disease to treat because people don't survive very long," van Baal said. "But if they are old enough to get Alzheimer's one day, they may survive longer and cost more." The ultimate suggestion "We are not recommending that governments stop trying to prevent obesity," van Baal said. "But they should do it for the right reasons." Stupid fellow. He was surprised. What the hell. Well if you are a smoker or an obese you defini...

And you thought it only seemed longer

For sometime now I had been hearing of the (supposedly) joke which says that It's not true that married men live longer than single men, it only seems longer. But then now some real smart researchers have found out that  "Fights with spouse can help you live long" . Now this proves one of the many things. Married men or single men, both fight equally. Some men are single because they continuously fight with their girlfriend. Hence actually both live equally long and frustrating lives. Married men are almost always at the receiving end of the fight. Hence they are actually not fighting. Hence liable to die as early as single men. But then let me quote Johnny Carson "Married men live longer than single men. But married men are a lot more willing to die." What do you think about it

Cyber citizens of India, your action is needed

Telecom Regulatory Authority of India has come out with the status paper on broadband speeds . It unlike other government agencies does not show lethargy of the ultimate kind. But still the paper leaves a lot of things unanswered. Though I have mailed to the authorities as indicated in the paper, but I suggest more people do so to build a stronger case. Here are my points 1. The definition of minimum speed must be changed radically. It should not be 'the last mile' speed, but a function of the the bandwidth the ISP has reserved for each of the 'always on' broadband connection. This is adviced because its seen in common parlance that ISPs provide actual download speeds with are considerably lower than what is expected. http://speedtest.net does  a good test of it. TRAI should also spell out fines for faltering in providing this service since most places its seems do it at will. 2. Speed provided does not depend on usage. The fact remains that the internet charges fo...

Yet another research which just.........

Image
Each researcher come up with an amazing new theory and I can do anything but..... you know what. I am talking about yet another research which talks about internet addiction . Its just stupid to say things like this. I wonder if television, phone and breathing also comes under the same category. These guys say "Internet addiction is not manifesting itself as an urge. It's more than that. It's a deep craving. They (the addicts) are just like anyone else who is addicted to coffee, exercise, or talking on their cellular phone" This supposed to be a big research. Something like telling you need to breadth else you will die. If someone is just crazy to talk all the time with someone, is that addiction. I think these researchers are really poor at English like me . Please suggest some better word than addiction to these guys. I dont know this research been conducted by whom or whatever but one thing is sure, research like these can be no value. Its like saying y...

Theory of Success and Productivity!!!!

I today got this amazing story to read from the master of 'office humor', Scott Adams . Usually he would write the stuff in a very discrete and sarcastic way. But today he missed the bigger point. So here is that point for u. There are two ingeniously stupid researchers who have come up with something interesting. This actually is worth the igNobel or "No Balls" if not the Nobel Prize. Research 1 says that Happiness = success. Research 2 says that Sadness = productivity. Now if I say that both researchers are earnestly true then I can form some real good mathematical equations. Sadness = No Happiness. Since Happiness = success, Sadness = No success. Hmmm now is the fun, as Sadness = Productivity , we can say that, Productivity = No Success Now effectively, No Productivity = Success. This clearly proves that harder you work, less successful you would be and your appraisal will reflect that. So for more success work less. If you have worked hard ...

One more amazing research

These researches now are driving me crazy. I really feel that these people just make things up. I now even do not believe the real researches. Call me cynical or whatever but this research is hopeless. I don't know what they want to say with statements like these. 13.7 percent (more than one out of eight respondents) found it hard to stay away from the Internet for several days at a time 12.4 percent stayed online longer than intended very often or often 12.3 percent had seen a need to cut back on Internet use at some point 8.7 percent attempted to conceal non-essential Internet use from family, friends and employers 8.2 percent used the Internet as a way to escape problems or relieve negative mood 5.9 percent felt their relationships suffered as a result of excessive Internet use Statement 1. I really don't know how many people find it hard to stay away from their mailbox or their telephones. Do we have to call these people addicts? Man this pure craziness to ask people the ...

I am an autist

I am saying that I'm an autist. But then it sounds funny but it’s true. I am sure that you guys must have read about autism being induced by TV in the news (on TV). Still guys let me give you some intro to this disease . Heres what Webster’s have to say about it au·tism Pronunciation: 'o-"ti-z&m Function: noun : a variable developmental disorder that appears by age three and is characterized by impairment of the ability to form normal social relationships, by impairment of the ability to communicate with others, and by stereotyped behavior patterns - au·tis·tic / o-'tis-tik / adjective or noun - au·tis·ti·cal·ly / -ti-k(&-)lE / adverb The Free Online Dictionary au·tism (ô -ti- z m) n.
